Ayia Napa has been transformed from a sleepy fishing village into a lively resort, which has some of the best beaches on the island. Contrary to popular belief, however, this cosmopolitan town isn't all about bars and clubs for the younger generations. If you look closer you will discover that Ayia Napa is full of history and tradition with something to offer for all ages.
The centre of the town is built around a 16th Century Venetian Monastery, which is a haven of peace and tranquillity in amongst the hustle and bustle.
Many cultural events take place throughout the year including the Festivals of Kataklismos in June and the Ayia Napa Festival in September both of which include outdoor music and dance performances. Special acts from all over the world are brought to perform and in recent years these have included River Dance, Nana Miskouri and many more.In recent years much money has been spent in revitalizing the original little fishing harbour of Ayia Napa. The area has been pedestrianised with pavement cafes and fish tavernas lining the harbour area. A wooden walkway spans the length of the harbour and beyond. At night beautifully designed lights illuminate the area setting the perfect scene for a romantic meal or stroll.
Ayia Napa is also within easy reach of the town of Paralimni and the adjacent resort of Protaras.
